01Our role
Pelorus Risk, LLC advises clients, arranges insurance and structures weather-risk solutions with insurers and other partners. Pelorus is not an insurer and is not the counterparty to weather derivatives.
The insurer that issues a policy, or the counterparty to a contract, is responsible for any payment due under it.
02Insurance coverage
Coverage is subject to the terms, conditions, limits and exclusions of the policy issued, and to underwriting, applicable law and final documentation. Nothing on this site binds coverage.
03Parametric insurance
Parametric insurance pays according to an agreed measurement and trigger. A payment may be more or less than the actual loss. If the trigger isn't met, no payment is made, even after a loss. Payment timing is set by the policy.
04Weather derivatives
Weather derivatives are financial contracts, not insurance. They are documented and treated differently from insurance and are available only to eligible counterparties. Smaller businesses may be better served by parametric insurance.
Payment follows the agreed weather measurement. It may differ from any actual loss, or be nothing at all. Payment timing is set by the contract.
05Examples and figures
Scenarios and example figures on this site are illustrative. They show how a solution could work, not a placement or payment that has occurred. They are for explanation only and are not quotes or offers.
